The hospice "Bellido" was standing out by high prices and by a bathroom smelling like a pigpen. There was no shower curtain, too. The hot water did not function and there were no curtains on the window. The windows had to be made dark because they were at the side of the stairway. So there had to be installated a provisional bath towel. Add to all this the room had a cold stone floor which made the room very cold.

Generally stone floors are good for the climate in Lima, but not for the cold Sierra towns. The hotel owners do not realize this in many cases...

The hostal "El Mesón" could be a beautiful hostal with beautiful bathrooms, water tanks and warm water etc., but the hostal "El Mesón" has in all rooms cold stoned floors and many rooms go to the shadowy North side. By this it's always very, very cold in the rooms. Add to this a neighbour of the hostal has hens and three cocks and by this it's not possible to sleep from 4 o'clock in the morning any more. And these conditions make the hostal very uncomfortable.

The hospice "Caribe" was a hospice with wooden floors, but with bad and dipping beds of wire, with bad mattresses and with broken sheets, and the window panels were not fixed any more in the window frames because most of the putty was fallen off. By this the windows were not closing any more. A message to the staff had no effect. Add to this the hospice was a place for people of the disco, so in the middle of the night there was always a big TV noise which provoked heavy complaints. So one never knew if it would be possible to sleep or not. Add to this there was only cold water and the toilet was constipated by peaces of a mirror so the toilet was always a risk if it functioned or not. Also for this there was made a message to the boss, but without effect, also with as peace of mirror showing to the boss. Add to this the boy who should clean the rooms was mostly watching TV in the empty rooms he should clean and this was at 6:30 and this loud that it provoked again heavy complaints. Add to this the young boys of the hotel liked more to play computer games than to be busy with repairs for the hotel. And at the end one boy said I had paid one night too less.

The hospice "Caribe" was absolutely crazy. Poor people were using the hotel to buy things for tehmselves instead to make investments into the hotel itself. It was a catastrophy. Of course the boys had always the posibility to organize themselves a sex night with a girl in an empty room, this because it's forbidden for the boys to have sex with a girl at home, and also for the girls. The catholic convention against sex provokes the young generation to "organize" hotels for having sex and provokes condition similar to brothels...

Hospedaje Sebastián, Jiron 9 de Diciembre N° 251, Ayacucho, Huamanga, Perú

This hospice suffers the effects of the disco at Jiron 9 de Diciembre and by this can only be recommended for friends of discos with disco noize from Thursday to Sunday until 4 o'clock in the morning. The basses are coming throuth the floor. The beds were good. The bathroom was very pretty, but the warm water did not function.

This hostal pretends to be very serios and had stable beds as one of the rare hotels of the lower price class. But the windows are blade skylight windows and do not close at all, and warm water was not available either. And the floor was a cold stony floor. So the hostal is only suitable for people who like the cold.

When I had to leave at 9 o'clock in the evening to go to my bus for Lima I was forced to pay the whole price for the whole night whereas it had been indicated to pay only the half price, and whereas I abandoned a stool to the hotel. But the vigil was "not informed" about the price arrangement and did not want to call the direction of the hotel either at this moment...

Text in English (translation):

Edwin Sulca was born on 5th August 1958 in Santa Ana district in the town of Ayacucho in Perú. He is member of the third generation of his family which produced popular handicrafts in textiles working with the technique "point Arwi". He is conserving the heritage of his grandfather Don Ambrosio Sulca (1994 winner of the national prize of Big Master 1994), and of his father Don Victor Sulca, master and executor of a great technique. Edwin Sulca is giving exhibitions since 1979. He was travelling in different towns in Perú and abroad showing his techniques and his poems which are integrated into his textiles, so in the United States, in Switzerland, France, Spain, Brasil, Colombia and Ecuador.

The antropologist Jermín Rivera Pineda indicates that Sulca is working with pictures of dreams:

"Edwin Sulca, master of textile arts, has integrated his and his people's dreams and hopes into the carpets speaking of force, of pain and longings of Ayacucho. He invented to fix the language of figures and scenes in textiles working with the simbolism of the Andes and of his experience. So his motives in his carpets represent the soul of the Andes and are a universal message, as are also the poems in his artwork..."
